Donations Needed and Appreciated

Dear Neighbors,

Since 1945 the Lower Providence Fire Department has been providing Fire, Rescue, & Emergency Services to our Community. Your donation directly goes to operating this organization. Funds assist with our operating budget, apparatus purchases, life-saving equipment purchases, continuous training costs, insurance costs, and building upkeep; all vitally important for us to continue to protect life and property for the residents, businesses and visitors of Lower Providence Township. We are truly grateful for everyone’s support over the history of our organization. Thank You!

Did you know in 2024 LPFD responded to 718 calls for service?  These calls include structure fires, vehicle fires, fire alarms, accidents with injuries, rescues and EMS assist calls totaling more than 2,700 hours in service. Additionally, responders spent more than 2,400 hours training at various fire academies, and on our weekly drill nights.

While we are always recruiting new members for all positions in the organization and always welcoming new members, many people do not have the time to dedicate to another venture, that is why an annual Fund Drive Donation, or an Anytime Donation, is the most convenient way for the community to assist us.  Our three largest expenses are firefighting equipment, apparatus, and building.

Firefighting Gear has an approved usage of 10 years per NFPA.                            New Fire Engine expected in Spring of 2025 - Cost $ 770,000

Tax Incentives for Donating

Did you know your donation to the Lower Providence Fire Department could be tax-deductible? LPFD is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means your contribution may qualify for a deduction on your federal and state income taxes. Here’s how you can benefit:

  • Federal Income Tax Deduction: As a recognized nonprofit, your donation is generally deductible on your federal income taxes, reducing your taxable income for the year.

  • Pennsylvania State Tax Credits: If you're a Pennsylvania resident, there are additional tax benefits for donating to volunteer fire companies like LPFD. Under Pennsylvania law, you may be eligible for:

    • The Fire and Emergency Services Grant Program: This program provides financial support to both volunteer and career fire departments. While the grant program is primarily for departments, it reflects the state’s strong support for volunteer fire services.
    • Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credits: Though this primarily benefits those actively volunteering, knowing that donations go to departments that offer these benefits further enhances the value of contributing to volunteer-based emergency services.
    • Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC): Pennsylvania businesses that donate to qualified organizations may qualify for tax credits. This is a powerful incentive for local businesses looking to support public services.

Always consult with your tax advisor to verify how Pennsylvania-specific tax credits may apply to your personal or business donation.

  • Corporate Matching Programs: Some employers offer matching gift programs, doubling or even tripling the impact of your donation. Check with your employer to see if your contribution can be matched.
