Tuesdays are for Training !!
On Tuesday evening members gathered for Live Smoke Training. Members took a short drive over to Skippack Fire Company Training Grounds this week for training with live smoke.
Members conducted a walk through of the facility, conducted a safety briefing, and set up safety lines before working to continue polishing our skills.
This week members focused on smooth and efficient ground ladder deployment followed by a VEIS situation. VEIS is known as Vent-Enter-Isolate- Search. This weeks training helped firefighters learn when it is appropriate, why it is appropriate, and how to conduct this operation.
Firefighters practiced accessing a 2nd floor room via ladder, opening to window, sounding the floor (to ensure one is still there), entering the room, closing the door (to isolate and keep smoke and heat from continuing to enter that room) , and searching for a potential victim.
LPFD Members take training seriously and try to practice for real world applications and situations. Members took turns rotating through various positions such as , Safety Officer, Commander, RIT Team, and Rescuer.
