By Deputy Chief Christopher Reynolds
January 18, 2025

It is a cold and blustery January Saturday. You are with friends and family when the alarm sounds, and someone needs help. First Responders leave the warm and comfort and respond at a moments notice. They do not think twice about the conditions someone is in need, and we have the ability to assist. On this particular Saturday the tables are turning.

Now it has been an hour, then two, now three and those that left are cold, thirsty, and hungry; but they continue to work to accomplish the task at hand for a complete stranger. In the distance you see an unmarked vehicle pull right up to the scene without any commotion, the door opens, next the trunk and you can see the steam from the old but faithful stainless coffee pot. Next thawed secretly stashed Fire Company Donuts appear neatly on a tray, followed by a warm sandwich or some salty snacks.

These items didn’t magically arrive, they were carefully handled by the company mother for all the first responders at the scene. That is what happened today. Even after attending business meetings, committee meetings, trustee meetings, handling Fire Prevention activities, and doing anything else that may be needed to help the Lower Providence Fire Company operate.

Decades before, Lower Providence was blessed to have one of the first female firefighters in Montgomery County. This individual even before that was responding to medical calls as a first responder with Lower Providence Community Center Ambulance. You might ask how does this person have anytime at all?

Well, the secret…. We have No idea how this all gets accomplished along with being a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Friend, and caregiver. You may say this seems like a superhero?

Well to us this person is our “Wonder Woman!!”

Following in the footsteps of her late Father this person was noticed and honored outside of Lower Providence for all these contributions. We are very very grateful to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee for reading the numerous support letters and selecting the Lower Providence Legend herself Jackie Rittenhouse as the 2025 Grand Marshal.

Congratulations Jackie and Thank you for all you have and continue to do for the community. You deserve this honor, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you.
